A typical day on the water with us...
You’ll meet your guide at our offices the morning of your scheduled trip. Some time will be spent getting to know each other, discussing the current fishing conditions and reviewing equipment and gear to make sure you’re ready for the day. A standard day of fishing with us consists of 8 hours out on the water, so we need to make sure everyone is well prepared. We’ll have a chance to fit those of you who are renting gear from us with fly rods, reels and waders and you can also have the opportunity to check out lots of great items in our small, but well stocked fly shop. Once all the “business” is wrapped up, we’re off to the water which is only about 10 minutes away from our office.
Once on the water, some time will be spent between you and your guide discussing strategies and techniques for the day, and rigging up the fly rods. The guide will want to know more about your experience with fly fishing, and will take some time to make sure you are comfortable with all aspects of fly fishing. Our guides are very experienced, and work extremely well with anglers of all abilities. We’re confident that you’ll appreciate the guidance and knowledge that our guides are eager to share with you as you enjoy our private waters. The guide will provide you with a lay out of the water, and then will spend the day working with you and the other anglers as you enjoy fishing for several species of trout. Throughout the day you’ll have the opportunity to learn about several aspects of fly fishing, including - casting, fly presentation, dry vs. nymph fishing, fighting and playing fish, proper handling and releasing of trout, fly selection, knots, reading trout water, identifying species of trout and matching the hatch.
About half way through the day you’ll break for lunch. A great streamside meal is provided and will be prepared for you by the guide. You will have the chance to sit back and relax for a bit, and take in the beauty of the Rocky Mountains. This break and meal will allow you to recharge your system as you look forward to the second half of your day on the water with us. It also provides the first opportunity for streamside fishing stories to be shared among friends.(remember the first liar doesn’t stand a chance!)
After lunch it’s back to the water and more fly fishing! Lots of time the afternoon will find one or more of our anglers in search of a grand slam or super slam, (catching 4 or 5 species of trout in a single day), which is quite an accomplishment. Novice anglers will see big improvements in their casting as they continue to work with and learn from the guide. As the sun begins to drop in the western sky, your day with us will come to an end. Its our goal to send you on your way with lots of great memories of our time together on the water, and the hope that we will see you again sometime soon.
